Food Project: Olive Tapenade | Seymour, Indiana Wedding Photographer | Marinda Fowler

March 1, 2012

Just for fun this year, I decided to take on another project at the start of the new year.  One that didn’t have a lot of rules as I’m not such a great rule follower.  This is my own personal project and I didn’t want to make it feel like a chore.  Sooo… I went with food.  A year of food.  All kinds of food… drinks, raw food, cooked food, play food, simply food.  And yes… we’re only 2 full months into the new year and I’m already slacking!  ;)   If you’d like to see previous food project images, please go HERE.

Anyway, this is my most recent photo for this project.  This is Olive Tapenade; The Old Spaghetti Factory style.  My hubs and I visited The Old Spaghetti Factory this past weekend and had their olive tapenade.  I was hooked!  I love olives and knew I had to find a copycat recipe stat.  I found the perfect recipe and now have a bowlful of this yummy goodness in my fridge!

olive tapenade

Ingredients:

  • 1 jar pitted kalamata olives (1 1/2 cups)
  • 2 cans pitted medium black olives (2 1/2 cups)
  • 1/4 cup capers
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Directions:

Toss all ingredients in a food processor and pulse till smooth.

Serve with toasted fancy bread, crackers, pretzel rods or just eat with a spoon.  Yeah, it’s that good!

I’m not sure about how long it’s good covered in the fridge, so use your own judgement there.  However, I think it should be good for a looooong time.  And it makes a loooooot.

Enjoy!!

Black Friday 2011 | Seymour, Indiana Photographer | Marinda Fowler

November 23, 2011

It’s that time of the year again! How many of you will actually go out in the dark and cold to fight your way through the crowds and score the best deal possible on the item your child wants most for Christmas morning? Yeah, me too. Even if I don’t buy a single thing, it just feels wrong to miss the chaos. Last year, I was sick and couldn’t go. I felt it. I ached to go out (as well as aching from a cold). It kicks off the holiday season for me. Yes, there are a ton of people wanting the same little gadget that the stores have very limited supplies of. Yes, I lose sleep. Yes, there are always a few bad apples in the day. However, I have noticed over the last few years that there is also a shopper’s camaraderie for those few hours and the majority of people are in a festive mood… and I actually have fun!

So with that said, I plan to be out shopping with all the other fools in the wee hours of Friday morning. Which means that I will be doing things a little different for my Black Friday shoppers (mainly because I do not want to police my email that day!). You may purchase your Black Friday gift certificate right here from this blog post. You will simply click on the little yellow “buy now” button below. It will take you to a PayPal screen where you can complete your purchase with a credit card, debit card, personal check, or your PayPal account.

Easy peasy.  Christmas shopping for that hard to buy for person on your list = DONE!  Or just use the certificate for your own family session in 2012.  ;)
